New Year's Not-Resolutions

I don't want to make strict resolutions that I won't meet, but the changing of the year is a good time to reflect and think about ways you want to grow and change.  2013 was a little bit of a blah year: I didn't travel, I didn't really set any goals and I feel like nothing really changed. I don't feel like I did much spiritual growing. It was a good year and a lot of great stuff happened. I learned a lot about being content even with "less exciting" things going on. I feel like 2014 will be more significant somehow.

These are some goals/things I'm inspired to do this year, in no particular order:

1. Travel More.
Preferably outside the US this year. More day trips. And maybe a west coast/Canada road trip.

2. Find a Bible Study/Church/Small Group/Worship Service.
It's really hard to find things for non-college young adults.....

3.Get good enough at Aerial Silks to perform.
Go to class consistently. Do strengthening exercises at home.

4. Be in a performance besides dance recitals.
Play, musical, dance show, something...

5. Read 50 books.
This might be a bit ambitious considering that The Count of Monte Cristo, Les Mis and a bunch of other classics are on the list. You can follow my progress on Goodreads.

6.Read at least one Dickens book.
Besides A Christmas Carol, which I usually read in December. I haven't read any of his other work yet.I meant to in 2013, but I had lots of other things to read. Probably A Tale of Two Cities, as I've had it recommended a lot and I know there's a character that knits.

7. Write more. Maybe a whole book.
I haven't done much creative writing since middle and high school, but I have some ideas right now.

8. Get on top of my sewing/mending projects/probably give up on some of them that I don't care about anymore.
Seriously, I started some of them when I was like 13....

9. Stay on a decent night/sleep/morning/exercise/stretching/healthy-eating/quiet time/Bible reading routine.
Find the balance of being flexible as needed and not being completely lazy. So far so good this week.

10. Stress out about the coffee business less and enjoy it more.
I get too stressed out (usually with no good reason) about this too easily. Find ways to make the boring/stressful stuff more fun and productive.

11.Check my phone less.
Don't waste time checking Twitter every 10 minutes because I'm  bored. I have more things that I really want to do than I have time anyway and I don't need to use my phone to procrastinate.

12. Be a better listener.
Let's face it, I like talking better than listening. Give people my full attention and care about what they have to say.

What are your hopes and goals for 2014?

  1. Awww this is a really good post of goalishness!

I know what you mean about #2- all of them are either college groups or young couples. *table-flip* *rage-quit*
